Fighting for Justice: Ibad Bayramov Speaks Out on His Father’s Unjust Imprisonment

Date

The story of Dr. Gubad Ibadoglu, a prominent economist and researcher, is one of heartbreak and injustice. For years, he has been a vocal critic of the corrupt Azerbajdzhanian government and has fought tirelessly to bring about positive change for his countrymen. Many are calling for his release, including his son, Ibad Bayramov. In a recent interview, Bayramov candidly discussed his father’s case, the corrupt Azerbaijani elites, and the lack of action on the part of Hungary. This post gives insight into these issues, as relayed by Bayramov, and aims to raise awareness of the situation.

The case against Ibadoglu is clear-cut, in Bayramov’s opinion. It is politically motivated, intended to silence his father’s criticisms of the Azerbaijani government. “My father did not do anything wrong,” Bayramov says. “He is a victim of political persecution.” Ibadoglu is currently serving a three-year sentence and has been denied proper medical treatment while in detention. This raises serious concerns about his health, given his age and pre-existing health conditions.

Bayramov further emphasizes that his father’s case is not unique. Azerbaijan’s elites have a long history of corruption and human rights abuses. “They want to maintain power by stifling opposition and dissent,” Bayramov states. “My father is just one of many who have been targeted.” He believes that it is the duty of the international community to put pressure on the Azerbaijani authorities to end these practices.

Bayramov also spoke about Hungary’s role in the matter. He expressed disappointment in their lack of action regarding his father’s detention. “Hungary has always been a supporter of human rights and democracy,” he notes. “It is disheartening to see them turn a blind eye to the plight of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.” He believes that Hungary, in particular, is in a unique position to advocate for Ibadoglu’s release, given their close relationship with Azerbaijan.

The interview with Bayramov concludes with a call to action. He encourages individuals and organizations to sign a petition calling for Ibadoglu’s release. He urges journalists to continue covering this issue and to shed light on the larger human rights situation in Azerbaijan. He also expresses hope that more countries will follow in the footsteps of those who have already spoken out on behalf of his father and other political prisoners.
